The Hebrew word so rendered means simply a round vessel or cup for containing ink, which was generally worn by writers in the girdle (Ezekiel 9:2, 3, 11). The word "inkhorn" was used by the translators, because in former times in this country horns were used for containing ink.
INK'HORN, noun [ink and horn; horns being formerly used for holding ink.]
1. A small vessel used to hold ink on a writing table or desk, or for carrying it about the person. Inkhorns are made of horn, glass or stone.
2. A portable case for the instruments of writing.
